Versatility in Toothpaste Preparations:

Mostly toothpaste is used for preventing plaque getting changed to tartar if not removed. Tartar is also known as calculus is a hard mineral compound almost similar to tooth enamel. Tartar is formed all along the gum line in situations, when calcium compounds present in saliva along the dead bacteria present in plaque make a hard layer.

 

All the toothpaste formulations are combination of:

  • An abrasive to physically scrub the teeth surface to remove un-ingested food sticking on teeth.

 

  • A detergent to create foam in the mouth.

 

  • A thickener to give the shape of a uniform paste on dripping out as a liquid.

 

  • A fruit or mint flavouring agent to affect preference appeal to the user.

 

  • Humectants to maintain proper moisture in the paste during shelf.

 

  • Fluoride salts to prevent tooth decay and re-mineralization.

 

  • There are preparations having desensitizing agents to help persons feeling painful hot and cold sensation of teeth.

 

Mouthwash: The requirement of mouthwash to a person is when there is presence of bad breath on account of halitosis. The statistics on halitosis reveal that almost 50 % of the population suffers from bad breath. The bad breath is due to decay of food sticking on teeth or struck in spaces in between teeth, which is caused by the bacteria. There are certain bacteria harbouring under the tongue which protein content producing foul smelling hydrogen sulphide gas. Mouthwash hinders in the activity of bacterial and also masks the bad breath smell because of strong flavouring agent in it.

 

Electric Toothbrush: It is a miniature electronic wonderful device, which is designed to make oscillating movements like a manual toothbrush and works on a 12 volt rechargeable cell. There is a detachable toothbrush head to replace, when required.

 

All the electronic parts are sealed in a water tight compartment to prevent any damage taking place due to water contact. It is very useful for persons having arthritis handicap in hands.
